Goodbye
Brian stared at the picture on the wall opposite the window. A generic tropical beach view.
Sterile.
Cold.
Like the room. Like…
A muscle in his jaw ticked as he listened to the doctor’s spiel about how they had done all they could, but that her condition wouldn’t improve anymore. A drunken fall down the basement stairs and the resulting fractured skull had put mommy dearest in a permanent vegetative coma.
“We are the best facility in this state, Mr. Kinney. Your mother will be well taken care of.”
Goodbye, mother.
Brian knew that he would never come here again.
