Spring Awakening
Emmett kneeled down to carefully place the little pot of blooming hyacinths on the polished granite surface, sadly shaking his head as he brushed away some dry leaves. Nobody but him ever brought any flowers here and it seemed he was the only one to visit the grave.
“Ah Georgie, it’s already spring again,” he said with a wistful sigh. “I can’t believe how fast the months have passed. I know you always loved spring best of all.”
He knew how, if his Georgie were still alive, he would now spend all his spare time outside among his beloved flowerbeds.
He would dig around in the earth, pull out weeds or plant new flowers. He would enjoy this special time of the year when the trees grew fresh leaves and all the flowers burst out in bloom. This wonderful time of renewal and awakening. And new hope.
“I miss you,” Emmett whispered softly, absentmindedly picking some invisible lint off the bright red cardigan that he still liked to wear for comfort.
“And I wanted to tell you that I met someone. Someone special. I might even fall in love again… I think you’d approve.” He chuckled. “He’s a real stud.”
