rainbow1907: (Rainbow Flag)
I just received mine and my daughters' Rainbow Wristbands in the mail :) So I thought I'd do some pimping and share this wonderful site - Rainbow Delegation - with you all.

Everyone deserves to be loved and accepted

A rainbow colored wristband is our statement of the acceptance and support of that idea.

Get your own free Rainbow Wristband here:

Rainbow Delegation Wristbands

The Rainbow Delegation is a rapidly growing movement of people who wish to show their support of the LGBTQ community through the wearing of a rainbow wristband. Our participants are diverse, encompassing people of all ages, races, and sexual orientations. We wear these wristbands, not for fashion, nor as a fund-raiser for any particular agenda, but rather simply to be seen. Not just by the youth desperately needing to feel they belong, but also as a statement to all those people that would rather they didn’t.

You may never know whose life you touch, but something as simple as being a visual presence of support could make all the difference to someone.

In memory of family and friends who have lost the battle with cancer; and in support of the ones who continue to conquer it! Post this on your LJ if you know someone who has or had cancer. 93% won't copy and paste this. Will you?

This disease took away one of my best friends and my father-in-law... and the two year old son of good friends. They're still sadly missed but never forgotten ♥

March 26 8:30 - 9:30 pm is Earth Hour. The idea is that you switch off all non-essential appliances, lights and powered items to help the planet. Think about doing your part and taking part.

http://www.earthhour.org/Homepage.aspx

Feel free to repost this and pass it on. An hour can mean alot. The hour is to take place at your local time, and is not timed to the international clock. So where ever you are, turn off the lights etc. at 8:30 - 9:30 pm your time on March 26.

Let's do it! Together our actions add up!

As many of you know, Japan is currently being devastated by a massive earthquake and tsunami.

To raise money for relief in Japan, we're hosting a LuRe fanfic/fanart auction, similar to the recent Queensland flood auction.

Authors or artists willing to offer their services, please leave a comment at this post. Provide your contact information, what you'd be willing/not willing to write, etc.

Anyone who would like to bid, please do so by 11:59/midnight US Pacific time on Monday, March 21.

I will announce when the auction officially closes, and the current highest bidder will be the winner.

The winning bidders should make a donation to one of these charities, and send confirmation of their donation to their author/artist.

The author/artist can then go ahead and create their work!

Please help spread the word!

*I am the prostitute working the streets because nobody will hire a transsexual woman.

*I am the sister who holds her gay brother tight through the painful, tear-filled nights.

*We are the parents who buried our daughter long before her time.

*I am the man who died alone in the hospital because they would not let my partner of twenty-seven years into the room.

*I am the foster child who wakes up with nightmares of being taken away from the two fathers who are the only loving family I have ever had. I wish they could adopt me.

*I am one of the lucky ones, I guess. I survived the attack that left me in a coma for three weeks, and in another year I will probably be able to walk again.

*I am not one of the lucky ones. I killed myself just weeks before graduating high school. It was simply too much to bear.

*We are the couple who had the realtor hang up on us when she found out we wanted to rent a one-bedroom for two men.

*I am the person who never knows which bathroom I should use if I want to avoid getting the management called on me.

*I am the mother who is not allowed to even visit the children I bore, nursed, and raised. The court says I am an unfit mother because I now live with another woman.

*I am the domestic-violence survivor who found the support system grow suddenly cold and distant when they found out my abusive partner is also a woman.

*I am the domestic-violence survivor who has no support system to turn to because I am male.

*I am the father who has never hugged his son because I grew up afraid to show affection to other men.

*I am the home-economics teacher who always wanted to teach gym until someone told me that only lesbians do that.

*I am the man who died when the paramedics stopped treating me as soon as they realized I was transsexual.

*I am the person who feels guilty because I think I could be a much better person if I did not have to always deal with society hating me.

*I am the man who stopped attending church, not because I don't believe, but because they closed their doors to my kind.

*I am the person who has to hide what this world needs most, love.

Re-post this if you believe homophobia/transphobia is wrong. Please do your part to end it.

Hi guys, as some of you may know, the state of Queensland here in Australia is experiencing horrendous flooding at the moment. Thousands of homes and business are under water, mass graves are needed for the huge number of lost livestock, 15 20 lives have been lost so far and there are still 61 14 people unaccounted for. Thousands of people will be left unemployed as well as homeless.

To raise funds, there's a fan fic auction happening HERE with writers from a wide range of fandoms, including QaF, offering fic to the highest bidder.

If you don't want to bid on fic but you can afford to make a donation or offer to write some fic yourself, it would be much appreciated! Thanks!

You can get more info on the flooding and how to donate HERE and HERE.

December 1, 2010 - World AIDS DAY

Always be aware and safe!

The theme for World AIDS Day 2010 is 'Universal Access and Human Rights'.

The red ribbon is an international symbol of AIDS awareness that is worn by people all year round and particularly around World AIDS Day to demonstrate care and concern about HIV and AIDS, and to remind others of the need for their support and commitment.

About 136 former cheerleaders got together to do a dance routine to benefit “Susan G. Komen for the Cure” (Breast Cancer).

Each time someone views the video, United Healthcare will make a donation to the Komen organization.

Their goal is to get a million hits, which will lead to $100K raised.

Please can you take a moment to watch the video – and, just as important, pass this link onto your network of friends, family and colleagues?

It benefits a very important cause!

In honor of the lives that were lost to bullying, I am taking part of Spirit Day. In addition to wearing purple, I will be taking a moment of silence. I will take six minutes, one minute for each of the lives lost in the past few months, to think about their pain. I will think about how it must have felt to be in their shoes. To be called those names. To be physically attacked. To feel as if there was no way out but suicide. Think about what was going through their minds before they ended it all. They believed that they were better off dead than being perceived as gay, or people knowing that they were gay.

If you agree to do the same, please repost this to your journal. Spread the message of love. Stop the bullying. End the hate.

It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes at at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools.

RIP Tyler Clementi, Seth Walsh (top)
RIP Justin Aaberg, Raymond Chase (middle)
RIP Asher Brown and Billy Lucas. (bottom)

REBLOG to spread a message of love, unity and peace.
