Memories

Debbie leaned on Emmett’s shoulder, squeezing him gently. Nothing like her usual exuberant killer-hugs.

“You went by the cemetery today?” she asked.

“Yes, I brought him some flowers… he always loved them so much. I can’t believe it’s been a year since my Georgie died. God, I still miss him so much.”

“Damn! And how those assholes cheated you out of your inheritance!”

Emmett shrugged his shoulders.

“Couldn’t let them win by buying my silence. Georgie deserved so much better than that. Well… as we both used to say – fuck’em all!”

“But,” he added slyly, “that fur-coat was really fabulous.”
