[livejournal.com profile] drabylon's Prompt:

New York

Brian woke up slowly… reluctantly… and with a feeling of dread. By now, Justin would be up in the air and well on his way to New York, to try and make his way in the art world.

Brian sighed. He was alone, even if the sheets still carried Justin’s unique scent.

From now on he would have to wake up to an empty loft. It wouldn’t be easy to carry on with business as usual and keep up his façade of aloofness. He could pull it off though, couldn’t he? After all, he was Brian fucking Kinney.

Yeah… right.

The loft didn’t feel empty. It still felt… safe? Brian listened to the comforting noises. The muted sounds of traffic. The soft humming of the elevator as his downstairs neighbor returned home from her night shift at the hospital.

He felt slight stirrings in the air, as if someone were moving through the loft. And he smelled… coffee? What the fuck!?

Brian opened his eyes to see the familiar little box next to his face on the bed. He knew very well that it hadn’t lain there when they fell into an exhausted sleep after their final bout of love-making.

“Justin?” he called out disbelievingly. No, it couldn’t be. But there he was, slowly ascending the bedroom stairs and stepping up close to their bed to stare down at him defiantly. Brian was at a loss for words. He could feel the tension in Justin’s body, see the slight frown and determined set of his jaw.

Justin bent down and picked up the box, shoving it in Brian’s face.

“I’m not going and I won’t let you make me leave.”

He cleared his throat and continued softly.

“So… I’ve been thinking… and I decided that you should ask me again.”
