Hard Work

Hunter dragged himself into the kitchen and plunked down on his chair with a dramatic groan.

“Dude, I’m totally worn out. Who would’ve thought that working at the diner waiting tables could be such hard work?”

He gave an impatient little huff when Ben did nothing but shake his head and grin at him.

“I know it’s hard work, Hunter. You know, I used to work at a little café off campus during college.”

Ben patted him on the shoulder.

“Hey… it was only your first shift. I’m sure you’ll get used to it soon enough – just look at Justin.”

Just look at Justin, Hunter thought, hissing out an unintelligible curse as his head thudded on the table.

“Fucking Justin with his fucking sunshine smile… not you too! Debbie couldn’t stop singing his praises either. Sunshine this and sunshine that.

All. Day. Long.

God!

And you should have heard Kiki. Man, it was disgusting.

But hey! If grinning like a dork and shaking my ass at the customers earns me higher tips I’m all for it. I can do that too.”

He looked up and grinned smugly at his father.

“And so much better than Brian’s over-rated blond boy toy!”
