The prompt:

My beautiful son… I still remember how I held him as a baby, lost in the wonder of tiny fingers and toes, his trust in me absolute. He was always so happy and bright.
Can he forgive me that I didn’t stand by his side?
My lovely daughter… still young enough to look up at me for guidance, but old enough already to doubt my decisions.
Can she forgive me that I didn’t stand up for her brother?
Looking into the mirror of my children’s faces I see the broken pieces of our family.
Oh God! What have I done?
