Justin awoke with a feeling of unease, finding Brian’s side of the bed empty and cold. Tomorrow’s doctor’s appointment for the repeat cancer check-up lay heavily on them, ever since the last blood tests had come back with irregular results.

Cigarette smoke drifted up from the living room and he found Brian by the huge window, staring out into the night.

Justin wrapped his arms around Brian and leaned into him.

“Can’t sleep, huh?”

Brian shrugged and exhaled noisily. “I can’t stop thinking… what if?”

Justin reached up to gently squeeze his shoulder.

“Whatever happens, Brian… we’re in this together.”
